Ep. 11 – Why Students Deserve Local Foods

On this episode we are grateful to have Bob Gorman and Rebecca Rodriguez from the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, which is responsible for 35,000 students in 82 schools. Bob is the Executive Director of Nutrition Services at CMSD. Rebecca is the Program Manager of Farm to School at CMSD. Bob was previously at Parma City Schools where he worked with Chef Ben Bebenroth to educate and feed over 8500 children on Ben’s farm. A focus of Bob and Rebecca at CMSD is to expose, encourage, and educate students about nutrient-dense foods (i.e. No More Blue Applesauce). They have now, in just over a year, created partnerships with Spice Field Kitchen (https://www.spicefieldkitchen.org/), Food Strong (https://www.foodstrong.org/), the local Food Bank (https://www.greaterclevelandfoodbank.org/), Food Corp (https://foodcorps.org/), and the National Farm to School Network (https://www.farmtoschool.org/).
